Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting

Want to play but not sure where to start?

Welcome. This is a friendly guide for people who find the Street Fighter machine at EightyTwo, want to jump in, but need the basics first.

Start Here

01

The goal

Win two rounds by reducing the opponent’s life bar before they reduce yours. Block, move, poke, throw, and use special moves to create openings.

02

The buttons

There are six attack buttons: light, medium, and heavy punch, plus light, medium, and heavy kick.

03

The rhythm

This game is fast. You do not need to know everything. Start by blocking, using a few good normal attacks, and learning one special move.

Best first things to learn

  1. How to block high and low.
  2. One reliable normal attack.
  3. One anti-air move for people jumping at you.
  4. One special move for your character.
  5. How to lose a match, laugh, and play again.

82 Etiquette

A simple guide to joining the rotation without feeling awkward.

How to get in line

Wait until a game between players is over. Put your token at the ridge under the screen. Count the tokens that are there to determine how may tokens will need to be plaid before it's your turn. If you're confused or lose your place, ask “who’s next?”. People are usually happy to help.

Winner stays

In casual arcade rotation, the winner usually keeps playing and the next person challenges them. The loser steps off and can get back in line.

Ask questions

It is okay to say you are new. Most regulars would rather help you play than watch you walk away. Don't start a chat with players if they are in the middle of a game.

Keep it moving

When your turn is up, be ready. Pick your character and jump in.

Respect the cabinet

No slamming controls. There's also a little table on either side of the cabinet to hold your drink.

Characters

All twelve Hyper Fighting characters, with the basic special inputs written for people standing at the left side of the screen facing right.

Train With an Expert

Some players at 82 have been playing Hyper Fighting for years — sometimes decades. If you’ve ever watched someone do something impossible and thought, “how are they doing that?” this is for you.

Train With an Expert is a casual way to learn directly from experienced players in the local community. Whether you are completely new, trying to learn a specific character like Chun Li or Guile, preparing for tournaments, or just looking to get more comfortable at the cabinet, these sessions are designed to help you level up in a relaxed environment.

Sessions may include beginner fundamentals, movement, blocking, special move inputs, strategy, character-specific training, live matches, small group practice, or one-on-one help tailored to what you want to learn.

This is not esports bootcamp energy. It is more like: come hang out, play games, ask questions, meet people, and get better together.
